Dr. Kayi Hui-Spears (she/her/hers) is a licensed psychologist and a first-generation, Chinese, straight, cis-woman. Dr. Hui-Spears has attained extensive experience working with emerging and older adults at different University Counseling Centers, private practice, and community-based clinics. As a former international student and first-generational immigrant, her bicultural experiences have shaped her research and clinical interests in immigrants and Asian Americans mental health, cultural identity exploration, relational/intergenerational trauma, body image and disordered eating, and career development of women and racial minorities. Based in the DC Metropolitan area, Dr. Hui-Spears currently provides individual therapy via telehealth in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. She uses an integrative and strength-based approach in therapy, informed by Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, Psychodynamic-Interpersonal Therapy, and Relational-Cultural Therapy. Recognizing the historical and cultural barriers against immigrants and racial minorities to seek psychological services, Dr. Hui-Spears strives to co-create a safe, inclusive and affirming space with her clients to foster emotional insights, healing, empowerment, and lasting change.
