Summary
Practice Description
Hi there! My name is Shannon, and I am a South Asian daughter of immigrants born and raised in the US. I consider myself a social justice focused, trauma-informed, relational therapist. What that means is that I bring, explicitly and otherwise, a lens dedicated to understanding how systems of oppression impact our day to day mental health. In addition, I strive to understand how relational and other traumas may impact how we exist within this world. My own experiences as a second generation woman of color undoubtedly have impacted how I understand mental health.
One of my values regarding mental health is that I stray away from pathology and the medical illness model that has encompassed our understanding of mental health in the past. I believe the pathology model is based in supremacist values, while also detracting from our own relationship with our emotions, by calling them an “illness.” Our bodies and emotions react to our surroundings and experiences in perfectly normal and adaptable ways. I hope to help you facilitate a deeper connection with your emotions and how they show up in your body and mind.
